COVID-19 Test Home Collection Kit Program

Getting tested for COVID-19 is about protecting yourself and your loved ones. To help ensure everyone has access to COVID-19 testing, the NC Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with NC-based Labcorp, has launched a pilot program to provide 35,000 no-cost, at-home COVID-19 collection kits for North Carolinians who may face difficulties traveling to testing sites. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or think you may need to get tested, please get tested.

Who is eligible for the no-cost collection kit program?

Residents 18 and older can request a test collection kit for themselves online or through several community partner organizations. Parents or guardians of residents under 18 can request a test collection kit for those aged 2-17.

How it Works in Four Easy Steps

Request a collection kit. Go to www.pixel.labcorp.com/nc and follow the instructions to request your at-home collection kit. Once requested, your kit will be mailed to you via FedEx Overnight shipping.

Register your kit and collect your sample. Carefully follow the instructions included in your collection kit. These instructions will tell you how to register your kit online and use the swab provided to collect your sample that will be tested.

Mail your sample back to the lab.  Use the prepaid shipping envelope included in your collection kit to mail your sample back to the lab.

Check your results. Using your secure Pixel by Labcorp account you made in Step 1, check your test results. The results will typically be available 1-2 days after the sample arrives at the lab.

The State of Wisconsin and Vault Medical Services have teamed up to offer a new COVID-19 testing option for everyone who lives in Wisconsin, with or without symptoms, at no cost. This new service allows people to collect their own saliva samples for testing in their home.

To request a home saliva collection kit, visit this page and click Order a Test. You will be asked to give more information about the person who needs to be tested, including their name, phone number, and birth date. You will also be asked for your insurance information, if you have it. The kit will be sent to you at no cost, even if you don’t have insurance.

Expanding Free At-Home Testing for Americans: Today, the President will announce new steps to ensure that Americans has access to free at-home testing. First, the more than 150 million Americans with private insurance – who now are able to get tests covered in physician offices, pharmacies, and clinics with no cost sharing – will also be able to get at-home tests reimbursed by their insurance. Second, for those not covered by private insurance, in addition to more than 20,000 federally-supported free testing sites across the U.S., at-home tests will be distributed through key community sites, such as health centers and rural clinics. The Biden Administration has taken significant steps to increase testing in the country since January. We are on track to quadruple the supply of rapid at-home tests that we had in late-Summer. Today’s actions will help Americans access the tests they need to help them stop the spread of COVID-19 to others.
